The outdoor experience allows a Scout to develop responsibility and leadership by contributing as a member of the patrol team. That said, camping is also a lot of fun. We strive for an overnight trip every month but June and July. Tent CampingFrom March through October we typically camp in tents. In November, the troop adults cook a Thanksgiving meal for the Scouts and their entire families, after which we usually stay in cabins. Winter CampingDecember is usually our "winter" campout. January is typically our ski-trip to Colorado, and February usually finds us overnight indoors somewhere (e.g., lock-in at Fort Leavenworth, Fort Riley, or Cosmosphere). Residence Camp & High AdventureJuly is the annual 10-day Scout residence camp ("Summer Camp") at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, near Osceola, MO. Most years the troop strives to offer a high-adventure trip for the older Scouts sometime in June Some campouts focus on learning Scouting skills, which are especially important for the younger Scouts. Other campouts are just designed to be fun. The May campout is often a canoe trip, August is often a caving campout, and in September we sometimes take a journey on a biking trail. |
